  • Postings – System Information and Outreach

  • Recipients of Federal and State grant funds are required to share information in various locations and languages to inform the general public of basic information.

    Transit Systems are required to market and advertise information regarding services and utilization of those services. Information should be advertised/posted in areas that are easily accessed by the public. The following list is not meant to be all inclusive. Examples include but are not limited to:

    • Newspaper: The ad and general information should be periodically printed in the local newspaper(s). Most newspapers will advertise for free or have a minimal charge.
    • Radio: Advertisements on most local stations are free or have a minimal charge. Many stations will have seasonal campaigns where ads can be purchased and run daily for a predetermined amount of time.
    • Website: Systems should have a “stand alone" web page which should include the following information at a minimum:
      • System information;
      • Title VI information;
      • Operating hours, route information and schedules;
      • Fare schedule;
      • TAB meeting announcements;
      • Notice of TAB members' contact information available upon request;
      • System phone and fax number;
      • Website address and contact information;
      • Complaint policy and contact person information;
      • Comment section; and,
      • Information included as “Best Practice:"
        • Inclement weather policy;
        • Picture of a vehicle with logo;
        • TAB minutes;
        • Link to Special Needs Population plan;
        • Link to Emergency Management plan and site;
        • Links to informational sites such as HIPPA, DHHS, Medicaid, Aging, NCDOT‐IMD, FTA, DMV, RTAP, RPO/MPO, etc.; and,
        • System Success Plan – scoring and progress.

    Brochures: Brochures should include generalized information for the public regarding services. Brochures must include Title VI information and a TDD number and be printed in English and in the second most dominate language of the service area.

    Job Fairs and Group Presentations: Presentations should be provided to groups that use or can advocate use of the transit system. Booths/tables at job fairs or open houses to distribute information and answer questions should be utilized.​

    REQUIREMENTS FOR SYSTEM VEHICLES​


    Transit vehicles must have the following information on the outside body:

    • Public Transit System name, phone number and “open to the public;"
    • Municipal seal/logo;
    • Signage that the vehicle stops at Railroad Crossings; and,
    • DOT number, if applicable.

    Transit vehicles must have the following information posted on the inside of the vehicle:

    • “Seat Belts Required" sign;
    • “Elderly/Disabled Seating" sign at top of seat adjacent/behind the driver's seat;
    • “Cameras In Use" sign (or something similar);
    • “No Smoking" sign; and,
    • “Exit" signs at door and on emergency exit windows.

    It is a Best Practice to post the following information:

    • Fares;​​
    • HCCBG information (required by some aging contracts);
    • “Watch Your Step" sign;
    • “Slippery When Wet" sign;
    • Unacceptable passenger behavior bullets; and,
    • Fire Extinguisher location sign.

    OFFICE POSTINGS

    Transit Systems are required to have certain information posted in the transit office for public information and for employee information. Samples are listed below but may not be all inclusive. Check with your Human Resource Department for requirements regarding employee information:​

    • Wage and Hour poster;
    • OSHA Information and copy of Injury Report;
    • Counseling information for Substance Abuse;
    • Location of Hazard Material Data information;
    • Drug Free Workplace information ;
    • Equal Employment Opportunity;
    • Unemployment Insurance information ;
    • TAB Board meeting dates;
    • Right to Work poster;
    • Worker's Compensation poster;
    • Family Medical Leave Act information (FMLA) ;
    • Military and FMLA; and,
    • Polygraph Protection.
