• Transportation Demand Management (TDM)

Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs promote the use of all transportation options available, rather than defaulting to single occupant vehicle use. Included among these travel options are carpooling, vanpooling, teleworking, transit, bicycle, flexible work hours, compressed work weeks and parking policies/pricing structures.

NCDOT Integrated Mobility Division (IMD)'s TDM Program Purpose Statement: To increase efficiency of North Carolina's transportation network and support community livability by decreasing vehicle miles traveled, reducing traffic congestion, and improving air quality. Through funding, partnerships, and technical assistance, we empower urban, suburban, and rural communities to increase awareness and access to multimodal transportation options for residents, employees, and visitors through cost-effective strategies and innovative outreach and education approaches.

  • Commute Friendly NC

Commute Friendly NC is a statewide recognition program that offers a simple and easy platform to celebrate leadership of all the businesses and organizations (large and small), throughout the NC State, who are taking valuable steps to support and shift single-occupancy, car-driven trips of their employees to alternative sustainable modes, such as carpool, vanpool, telework, public transit, biking, walking and flexible work weeks. The program is funded by NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

Led by Central Pines Regional Council (CPRC), the program has been developed by a strong, collaborative partnership of seven statewide agencies:

Land of Sky Regional Council (LOSRC), Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), GoCoast (Wilmington), Piedmont Authority for Regional Transit (PART), GoTriangle (Regional Transit Agency), Sustain Charlotte (Non- profit, Charlotte) and Triangle Transportation Choices (CPRC).
