The Transportation Planning Division (TPD) of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), in cooperation with the High Country Rural Planning Organization (HCRPO), worked with Ashe County, the Town of Jefferson, the Town of Lansing, and the Town of West Jefferson to develop a Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP). The CTP was adopted by the Town of Jefferson on May 22, 2023, the Town of Lansing on June 13, 2023, and the Town of West Jefferson on June 5, 2023 and Ashe County on May 15, 2023. The High Country RPO endorsed the CTP on May 17, 2023. The CTP is up for mutual adoption at the November 6, 2025 NC Board of Transportation meeting.
