Carteret County Comprehensive Transportation Plan: The Carteret County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) is a long-range plan, which identifies major transportation improvement needs and develops long term solutions for the next 25 to 30 years. The study is a joint effort with Carteret County, Carteret County Municipalities, the North Carolina Department of Transportation –Transportation Planning Division (NCDOT TPD), and Down East Rural Planning Organization (DERPO). The CTP study involves both government officials and the public to determine the area’s future transportation needs based on the best information available including, but not limited to, population, economic conditions, traffic trends and patterns of land development in the county. The study will also include multimodal forms of transportation (bicycle, pedestrian, and public transportation). A previous Carteret County CTP was mutually adopted by the NC Board of Transportation on January 9, 2014.

The steering committee, comprising of local representatives from various towns, along with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the Down East Rural Planning Organization (DERPO), and Carteret County, has been meeting over the past two years to conduct a detailed engineering analysis and develop recommendations for this plan. The process has now progressed to the public review stage, during which community members are invited to attend four open-house review sessions. These sessions provide an opportunity for the public to examine the draft plan and submit their feedback.
