This Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) study is a long range plan, which identifies major transportation improvement needs and develops long term solutions for the next 25 to 30 years. It is an update of the Jackson County 2010 CTP. It's development was a joint effort between Jackson County, the municipalities of Sylva, Dillsboro, Webster, and Forest Hills, the Southwestern Rural Planning Organization (RPO), and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The CTP study involved both government officials and the public in an effort to determine the area’s future transportation needs based on the best information available including, but not limited to, population, economic conditions, traffic trends and patterns of land development in the county. The study includes alternative modes of transportation (bicycle, pedestrian, rail, and transit). The Vision Statement for the CTP is as follows: Jackson County provides a safe, efficient, cost-effective, multi-modal transportation system that is sustainable, preserves the character of the area, promotes healthy lifestyles, and connects to regional and broader transportation systems using all modes of transportation. The CTP was adopted by Dillsboro on July 10, 2017; Forest Hills on July 11, 2017; Sylva on July 13, 2017; Webster on August 2, 2017; and Jackson County on August 28, 2017.
