The NCDOT
GIS Unit is pleased to announce release of the GIS Data layers on the GIS unit
webpage specified below for Fourth Quarter 2022. Future Quarter releases for the next year are tentatively scheduled
for the following months: February, May, August, and November of 2023.
1. The NCDOT Rail Division
data for Crossings, Track and Facility locations have been updated.
2. The Road
Characteristics, Road Arcs and Road Routes layers are updated and includes both
System and Non-System routes. The HighwayExit point feature class is
included in the Road Characteristics File Geodatabase.
3. The NCDOT Structure Locations for Bridge data has been updated.
Route Data Updated this Quarter:
This layer is a visual representation of public roads in North Carolina. State maintained roads are current through September 2022 for changes by NCDOT Petitions and Municipal Agreements processes.
All represented non-system roads are sourced from local government datasets and are reflective of the last uploaded datasets. Non-system roads specifically updated this quarter: Alamance,
Brunswick, Buncombe,
Durham, Forsyth, Iredell, Johnston, and Mecklenburg counties.

***Starting with the Quarter 1, 2023 release of the GIS Data layers, the GIS unit will no longer distribute data in shapefile format. Any data currently released only in shapefile format will be released in file geodatabase format moving forward. If you have any questions, please contact gishelp@ncdot.gov.***
