  • 06 REVISIONS

  • 6.3 Ground Mounted ‘S’ Dimension Field Verification

  • This is the most common revision and happens on all projects with signs that have designed supports.  The Resident Engineer on the project should send 'S' dimensions that have been field verified by surveying the location in the field after the grading has been done on the project.

The Resident may request that we provide “S" dimension worksheets (Right Side or Left Side) to write down the verified “S" dimensions at each location.  After the Resident has sent verifications, the following steps will complete the revision: (“Where applicable, slope stakes will be set at each sign location to verify all theoretical calculations. In areas where grading is required, it is essential that the Contractor build the slopes in accordance with the slope stakes." Determination of "S" Dimensions.)

    1. Rerun the support designs using the verified “S" dimensions (round off to the nearest inch).  The sign supports still must pass all tests for the support design after using the verified dimensions. It may be necessary to call the Resident Engineer to verify that a positive (+) “S" was used for elevations below the travel lane and negative "S" (-) above the travel lane.

    2. See the Project Design Engineer if there are problems with the supports passing any of the tests on the Excel Support Chart Program. See Instructions tab before using Program. The Support Chart Program can be found here: Support Chart Program
