Issue Contractor used a non-standard detail for the continuous for live load (CFL) diaphragms by extending the diaphragms beyond the exterior girder in lieu of following the girder profile. Construction and Structures Management anticipates that this detail will relieve cracking issues with the standard CFL detail. Action Item Structures Management will investigate modifying the current CFL diaphragm detail to match the detail used for the Bonner Bridge project. Issue The stirrups projecting out of the tops of the prestressed concrete girders are uncoated reinforcing steel and the deck reinforcement is stainless steel, these two materials should not be in contact to avert the potential for galvanic corrosion. Action Item Structures Management will consult with the Engineer of Record to develop a solution to ensure the stirrups and deck reinforcement do not come into contact. Structures Management will require future projects to detail epoxy coated stirrups when the deck reinforcement is stainless steel. |
