~ Successful context sensitive project. ~ Weathering steel guardrail used on approaches and the 3-sided culvert. ~~ However, the Department would like to move away from using weathering steel guardrail, which does not allow for very tight lap joints. Painted galvanized steel guardrail is preferred.
3-sided culvert, context sensitive solution. The original design called for a cored slab structure. There was a high level of community involvement that requested consideration of a context sensitive solution. The result was a 3-sided culvert with faux stone facing (created by decorative form-lined concrete), that has been received positively by the local community, agencies and DOT leadership.
