• Fleet Support

    The Fleet Support section provides assistance to the fifteen (15) Divisions in insuring all equipment purchased for field use is serviceable and safe for our forces. Fleet Support purchases all shop equipment for our repair facilities and assists in maintaining the shops. We assist with warranty problems, equipment failures, and any other problems encountered on the equipment. Fleet Support also handles the sale of surplus equipment through State Surplus Property, operator training, and the statewide Automated Fuel System. The Fleet Support area is responsible for installation and maintenance of this system

    Equipment Depot
    The Equipment Depot receives, inspects, and in some cases, modifies new equipment after it is ordered by Fleet Management for the State’s fourteen (14) Divisions. The Equipment Depot includes several sub-shops which specialize in various components of equipment, i.e., heavy truck repair, body / upholstery / paint, carpentry, and plumbing, and other required repairs. These facilities are utilized to assist statewide divisions in repairing equipment for all user departments.

  • Operations

    The Operations Section provides support to field operations through management of the NCDOT Central Inventory and equipment budget management.

    Central Inventory consists of approximately 8,500 line items of equipment repair parts, maintenance materials, supplies and emergency spares.  The $7,000,000 inventory accepts requisitions from field units daily and delivers requested items to division units each week.  The Budget Office provides financial management for all equipment related activities throughout the state including new equipment purchases, repairs, fuel, insurance, and associated administrative programs.

     

  • Fleet Procurement & Specification

    The Division of Highways Fleet Procurement & Specification section is responsible for developing specifications, procurement, and assignment of new replacement equipment for NCDOT’s equipment fleet.  This section develops policies and procedures for replacements based on analysis of cost and performance data.  The equipment production group ensures all DOT equipment and vehicles are properly registered / licensed with DMV, DOT numbers assigned, placed on rent and insured.

    Fleet Procurement & Specification section also frequently hosts demonstrations of new equipment to allow vendors an opportunity to display their latest developments.  Our objective is to listen to what is needed in the field operations, stay knowledgeable of latest technology, and to provide the most appropriate equipment for the Division of Highways.
