Private sector participation and collaboration is necessary to ensure transit needs of the service area are identified and served.
Planning Agency Involvement: Transit system leaders are encouraged to partner with private, for‐profit bus operators and taxicab companies and engage local and regional planning agencies in discussions about transit services and needs.
Private Provider Input: Transit system planning and service reviews should include private providers for their input to the following:
- Can any existing services be provided more efficiently by private providers?
- What new services could be developed and operated by private providers?
- Are private providers given a fair opportunity to bid for the operation, maintenance or administration of any transit services?
Transportation Advisory Board Membership: The Transportation Advisory Board should include representation from the private transportation sector.
