• Identifying High-Risk Areas During Precipitation Events Support of NCDOT Stormwater Quality Monitoring

    NCDOT Research Project Number: 2018-04

Executive Summary

  • NCDOT’s Hydraulics Unit sougt to identify high-risk areas across the state during or soon after the occurrence of heavy precipitation events. Defined by the historical likelihood of obtaining the same precipitation amount within a specified time frame for a given location, these high-risk areas were highlighted via an alert system and mapping interface for NCDOT employees and contractors to better prioritize and deploy resources to mitigate flooding and runoff.
