In the field of Geographic information System (GIS), Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), or drones, have become a popular recreational as well as powerful data collection tool. UASs are able to take imagery and collect data with much greater temporal and horizontal accuracy than other forms of remotely sensed imagery. In this project, we propose to centralize these numerous jurisdictional policies, regulations and laws in a central GIS database and make them accessible via an interactive map that can be used my those who visit the NCDOT UAS web site.
Research Objectives:
Primary Objective #1: Develop a dataset of local UAS laws which will be linked to geospatial data
Primary Objective #2: Develop processes to add new policies, regulations, and laws to geospatial dataset
Primary Objective #3: Develop a final report summarizing all UAS laws by jurisdiction throughout the state of North Carolina.
Primary Objective #4: Technical support will be provided in order to seamlessly incorporate this information to spatial databases via NCDOT UAS site
