The Transportation Planning Branch of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the High Country RPO, is working with Alleghany County and Sparta to develop a Comprehensive Transportation Plan. The goal of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan is to help Alleghany County and Sparta meet anticipated multi-modal transportation needs over the next (30) years. Planning now for future needs will minimize impacts to homes, businesses, and the environment in the future. The draft plan will be created by NCDOT with input from citizens, Alleghany County, Sparta, and the RPO. The Comprehensive Transportation Plan will also be used by High Country RPO, local jurisdictions, and NCDOT for the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) prioritization process. The plan was last mutually adopted by the North Carolina Board of Transportation on June 7, 2012. More information will be posted here as it becomes available
