The Chowan County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) is a long range plan, which identifies major transportation improvement needs and develops long term solutions for the next 25 to 30 years. The development of the CTP involved both government officials and the public. The Town of Edenton, Chowan County, the Albemarle Rural Planning Organization, and the NCDOT - Transportation Planning Branch (TPB) cooperatively worked together to determine the area’s future transportation needs and project proposals. This plan is based on the best information available including, but not limited to, population, economic conditions, traffic trends and patterns of land development in and around the County. This plan provides for the safe, efficient, cost-effective and environmentally sensitive use of the transportation system while addressing current and future travel needs. The CTP was adopted on the following dates: the Town of Edenton on October 26, 2015; Chowan County on October 19, 2015; and endorsement by the Albemarle RPO on October 21, 2015. This was followed by The Transportation Planning Branch recommendation of the plan to the NC Board of Transportation on November 12, 2015. The NC Board of Transportation adopted the Chowan County CTP on December 3, 2015.
