The Bertie County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) is a strategic, long-range initiative designed to identify key transportation improvement needs and develop forward-looking solutions for the next 25 to 30 years. This collaborative effort brings together Bertie County, its municipalities, the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Transportation Planning Division (NCDOT TPD), and the Peanut Belt Rural Planning Organization (PBRPO). The planning process actively involves both local government officials and community members to ensure the CTP reflects the county’s future transportation needs. This is based on the most current and comprehensive data available, including population growth, economic trends, traffic patterns, and land development. In addition to roadway improvements, the plan also addresses multimodal transportation options such as bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and public transit. A previous version of the CTP was jointly adopted in 2012 by the NC Board of Transportation. Since then, significant updates have been made. Over the past two years, a steering committee—made up of representatives from local towns, NCDOT, PBRPO, and Bertie County—has conducted detailed engineering analyses and developed recommendations to guide future transportation planning. The updated CTP is now in the final stages of adoption. It is being reviewed and approved by individual towns and the Bertie County Board of Commissioners, followed by endorsement from the PBRPO and formal adoption by the NCDOT Board of Transportation.
