The Bertie County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) is a strategic, long-range initiative designed to identify key transportation improvement needs and develop forward-looking solutions for the next 25 to 30 years. This collaborative effort brings together Bertie County, its municipalities, the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Transportation Planning Division (NCDOT TPD), and the Peanut Belt Rural Planning Organization (PBRPO).
The planning process actively involves both local government officials and community members to ensure the CTP reflects the county’s future transportation needs. This is based on the most current and comprehensive data available, including population growth, economic trends, traffic patterns, and land development. In addition to roadway improvements, the plan also addresses multimodal transportation options such as bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and public transit.
From 2023 to 2025, a steering committee—made up of representatives from local towns, NCDOT, PBRPO, and Bertie County—conducted detailed engineering analyses and developed recommendations to guide future transportation planning and update the old 2012 Bertie County CTP.
This updated CTP been adopted by all eight towns (Askewville – June 2nd, 2025, Aulander – March 10th, 2025, Colerain – March 18th, 2025, Kelford – March 3rd, 2025, Lewiston Woodville – June 23rd, 2025, Powellsville – March 4th, 2025, Roxobel – March 11th, 2025, Windsor – April 10th, 2025), endorsed by the PBRPO on September 18th, 2025, and adopted by the NC Board of Transportation in February, 2026.
